The S-shaped metals in old buildings are known as "cramps" or "tie bars." These metal pieces are used to connect and reinforce masonry walls, particularly in historic buildings. They are typically made of wrought iron or steel and are shaped like an "S" to provide stability and support to the structure. Cramps are often found in older buildings as a means of strengthening the walls and preventing them from collapsing or bowing. **

To calculate the side length s of a geometric figure, you need to know the specific shape of the figure. For example, in a square or rectangle, all sides are equal in length, so you can measure one side to find the length of all sides. In a triangle, you may need to use the Pythagorean theorem or trigonometric functions depending on the information given. In a circle, the side length would be the diameter or radius. Overall, understanding the properties and formulas of the specific geometric figure is essential to calculate the side length accurately. **

The cost function is S-shaped because it represents the relationship between the cost and the quantity produced. Initially, as production increases, the cost per unit decreases due to economies of scale. However, as production continues to increase, the cost per unit starts to increase due to diminishing returns and inefficiencies. This results in an S-shaped curve, rather than a straight line, to reflect the changing cost structure at different levels of production. **
